Our story

A bread for the journey.

Lembas - waybread, in Tolkien's telling - is food made to carry travellers further than they expected to go. It felt like the right name for a bakery in a mountain town full of people passing through, and a few who stayed.

What we bake

Since opening on Pirin Street in 2025, we've baked sourdough from scratch every day - white and wholemeal, naturally leavened, given the time it needs rather than rushed. All-butter croissants are laminated by hand each morning, alongside small-batch blondies and biscuits.

Coffee is specialty grade, roasted by Dabov. Everything is made to be eaten slowly, at a table, not on the way out the door - though we understand if you can't wait that long.

A room to stay in

We keep the wifi fast and the tables free for as long as you need them. Laptops are welcome, and so are dogs. If you're working from Bansko for a week or a winter, this is a good place to do it from.
